Mimecast is a cloud-based, anti-spam, and archive filtering service for securing email accounts and communications for businesses. It does this by deploying a layered cyber resilience solution that prevents email-borne infections and reduces data loss.

Some senders are automatically assigned as permitted contact however for some unknown senders you will receive an email prompt from Mimecast. If you are sure the sender is genuine, click on “Permit” or “Release" which then will release the email that is currently on hold and “Block” or "Reject" for suspicion or proxy emails to avoid a potential breach.

These hold messages are placed there as a result of defined security policies defined by your administrator. They are designed to prevent unwanted messages from reaching your Inbox. These could be messages:

  • Considered as spam.
  • Containing attachments.
  • Failing Content Examination policies

There are two On Hold queues.

Personal On Hold:            Available for yourself, and displays all your held messages.

Moderated On Hold:          Available to administrators or designated overseers.

Messages not released or rejected from the hold queue after 14 days, are automatically removed.

The user is also given their own personal Mimecast portal where they can manage senders and release emails now. Please use your office email address to sign in to the portal Mimecast Personal Portal
